What can I expect on my first visit?
The Initial Osteopathic Consultation will last for approximately 1 hour and will involve the following -
- A detailed medical history will be taken, including present areas of concern along with details of current health and lifestyle.
- A standing postural examination and mobility testing.
- A thorough physical examination, medical, orthopaedic and neurological tests.
- A diagnosis and treatment plan will be discussed with you.
- Osteopathic treatment.
- A homecare plan.
How long will treatment last for?
An initial Osteopathic consultation will last for 1 hour and subsequent treatments thereafter will last for 30 minutes approximately.
Is Osteopathy suitable for me?
Osteopathic treatment is suitable for all ages. Treatment is as suitable for babies as it is for children, adults and the elderly.
What do I wear for my Osteopathic Treatment?
You may be required to dress down to your underwear to enable adequate assessment to take place. You may wish to bring a pair of shorts with you.
Does Osteopathic treatment hurt?
Osteopathic treatment should not cause pain.Treatment pressure can be adapted to suit each individuals needs. It is common to feel slightly sore the next day for 24-48 hours, something which we call a 'treatment reaction'. This should ease down gently and homecare advice will be given so that these effects can be minimised.
How many treatments will be needed?
The number of treatments that may be needed will depend on a number of factors such as the diagnosed condition, general health, age, diet, lifestyle, compliability of home care advice given. The estimated number of treatments will be discussed with you during the initial Consultation.
